Robber/s broke into our room while we were sleeping! They took our camera, celphones, and wallet.
The owner doesn’t give a shit that their guests’ safety was compromised! They just don’t give a shit!
Here’s how the story goes:
On our last night at Boracay, we all went to sleep at around 3 am after a long day of snorkeling, swimming, drinking and having fun.
One of us woke up at around 7am, he noticed that the door was open. After checking around, he suddenly realized that a lot of our stuff is missing: camera, celphones, wallet.
He then alerts everyone that we we’re robbed. We reported it to the girl in the front desk, and she told us to wait and never returned.
While waiting for their action we noticed that their screen door did not have the lock that was supposed to slide in place. We then tried using an I.D. to see if it was possible to open the locked wooden door from the outside, to our surprise, it was easy, got it opened in less that 8 to 10 seconds maybe (tried it twice).
We then decided to go back to the reception and ask for the owner, for he alone can decide what to do. They told us that the owner was in Kalibo at that time. We asked for his number and they gave us a card. We tried calling him twice with no success. The resort staff doesn’t have the initiative to contact the owner and just stands there like nothing has ever happened.
When we told them that we will not pay for the lodging until we get to talk to the owner, that’s when they panicked and called the owner’s wife. The wife then talks to us and as we explained what happened she insists that if a lost item was not deposited at the front desk it was no longer their responsibility. Why the hell will we deposit items with them if we were right there sleeping?!
She asked what time we found out about it and when we told her its around 7am, she asked us why we waited till around 9am to report it. She was surprised when we told her we did but their staff didn’t inform her (we wonder why???)
We don’t want to speculate but what are the odds of it happening on the day that we were leaving and had no time to investigate further. Why didn’t their staff inform them/her right away? Could it be an inside job happening right under the owner’s noses? and the front desk people knew we were drinking and tired and they knew it was our last day. We’re just wondering…
When everything was calming down and after the initial irritation, it was when we thought about the fact that a stranger entered our room while we were sleeping and DEFENSELESS. It was our safety that was compromised and we wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone.
When we declared the facts to the owner’s wife she was very unprofessional and fickle minded about it. Here are our complains and her answers:
1) Our complain: The guard was asleep long before we were
Her answer: We will let you talk to the agency and the guard (this one we can make logic with, but had no time to do)
2) Our complain: There was no lock on your screen (making the wooden door accessible)
Her answer: My husband was walking around till 3am and saw no one enter your room (one; she didn’t answer the question. and two; what if it happened while your husband was not passing by our room or if it happened after 3am DUHHH!)
3) Our complain: The wooden door can be easily opened with a card (a thief would have something more than just a card)
Her answer: My husband was walking around till 3am and saw no one enter your room (one, she didn’t answer the question AGAIN. and two, if her husband was standing outside our unit from 3am to 7am then make this statement, if he was not; shut the f_ _k up about it)
4) Our complain: We did the necessary precaution (lock the door) but still our room was robbed while we were sleeping and our safety was compromised.
Her answer: you should have deposited your valuables at the front desk (look here stupid, we were in the room sleeping, it was NOT as though we went out and the room was robbed.) Continuation to her answer: It is indicated that whatever gets lost in /out of the room will not be the management’s responsibility. (fool! this is a not just a robbery issue, it is a safety issue! what if one of us got surprised and all hell broke lose? we had a child with us.)
All they could do was call the police, the police told them we had to go down to their station to file a report but we didn’t have time for all of the investigation. Even if the cops investigate on it, our question now is what is the management going to do or offer us? We lost 2 phones, a wallet, and a camera. The phones and wallet can be replaced but the 400 plus shots we took with that cam is lost forever. Maybe we don’t have to pay because it was their fault (sleeping guard, no screen lock, easy to open unreliable wooden door) and we did the necessary precaution. Or at the least a discount. Guess what? Nothing. They offered nothing.
Don’t let this happen to you, NEVER EVER STAY AT VILLA SIMPROSA RESORT BORACAY. Don’t be lured with their cheaper rate. Your safety is far more important.
This is a first-hand experience and we don't want this to happen to you. Please pass this around and don’t ever let this happen to your family and friends.
